Homeland Security Agency Adopts Graphisoft's ArchiCAD and Synergis Adept to Support its Regional Strategic Plan
Graphisoft and Synergis Technologies, Inc., developer of Synergis Adept, a leading engineering data management solution, are cooperating to provide their joint customers with a complete system for the visualization, integration and management of building data. Among the institutions in their joint customer base, the companies will serve the United States Coast Guard's Office of Civil Engineering, an agency within the Department of Homeland Security, with an interoperable system for its Regional Strategic Planning (RSP) initiative, which is designed to replace traditional master planning, and form a bridge between strategic planning and the execution of tactical programs. "We needed a tool that would enable us to bring ArchiCAD's Virtual Building Information into our document control process," said Lt. Cmdr. Jack Dempsey of the Office of Civil Engineering at the United States Coast Guard. "ArchiCAD generates and stores key building information, and Adept helps us manage those data to integrate decision-making for our regional strategic planning efforts. Georgia, USA, Architectural Firm Selects ArchiCAD Over Competitor Products Autodesk Revit and Microstation
Architectural firm A. Vincent Pope & Associates has selected ArchiCAD ® as its primary tool for building design and modeling. The firm selected Graphisoft's ArchiCAD after reviewing products from Autodesk and Bentley.
Vincent Pope & Associates provides visualization studies for its clients, making the ability to design and document work in 3D a vital component of its services. The Georgia-based firm sought a software package that would empower its staff to create a virtual model of a building, without adding complicated or unnecessary steps to the design process. The firm evaluated several different CAD software products, including Autodesk ® Revit ® and Microstation ® from Bentley Systems, and determined that ArchiCAD's Virtual Building? model was the only software that would fully meet its needs. arkiTech Australia 2002 Prize Winner Announced
Australian Graphisoft partner arkiTech Pty Ltd and Multi-CAD Magazine held a nationwide competition for architectural students who use Graphisoft's ArchiCAD software.
Our congratulations go to the winner, Michael Chan, a student of the University of New South Wales. Michael's prize is a trip for two people to London, a generous cash prize, plus a student version of ArchiCAD 8. Michael chose to submit a design for the Graphisoft Park Conference Center over the Danube in Budapest.
The competition called for entrants to create architectural works documentation for a development application. Read the details of the competition here in Multi-CAD.
Entry to the arkiTech Prize was free and open to all students of architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning or any allied discipline in Australia. Entrants were free to choose the type of building to be designed and teams of up to three students could enter. A jury of renowned experts in the field of Australian architecture met in July 2003 to judge the qualifying entries and award the prizes.
arkiTech generously sponsored the competition's prizes. Visit the arkiTech website.

QuickNews August Edition
The release of the August edition of QuickNews coincided with the circulation of the Blaster and related viruses, which blighted many companies' networks. Graphisoft was unaffected, but many Webmasters responded to these viruses by setting their firewalls & virus protection programs to reject any mail with 'suspicious' content. A large number of the mailings for the August edition were returned as undeliverable. If you did not receive August's QuickNews , this was the reason. Hopefully, things will return to normal this month.
Subscriber Milestone
Tuesday, 23rd September was not just the day after the autumn equinox; it was also the day that QuickNews gained its 1500 th 'live' subscriber. Brendon Reid of Orbit Solutions in Melbourne, Australia was the lucky guy, because to mark the occasion, he was awarded a Graphisoft ArchiCAD folding chair in which to spend all the time saved by using ArchiCAD's streamlined features.
After hearing of his good fortune, Brendon said of his firm: ' With offices in Melbourne and Sydney, Australia, Orbit Solutions is fundamentally a building design practice, but also offers other specialist services such as visualization, ArchiCAD training, GDL programming and consulting to other professionals? ArchiCAD is our tool of choice, and having used it since version 4.1, we're continuously trying to push its boundaries.'
With the Australian summer fast approaching, Brendon can now push ArchiCAD's boundaries sitting down comfortably!
