GDL-Talk
Discussion Groups
Discussion lists are a service that sends you information via e-mail. To receive a discussion list, you need to subscribe to it. Messages sent to that discussion list by list-members are then delivered to your e-mail address. To stop receiving a discussion list, you have to unsubscribe from it. All discussion lists on this page are free of charge.
The main purpose of GDL-Talk and ArchiCAD-Talk is to be a way for ArchiCAD users to communicate. By joining these lists, you can share experiences, questions, and comments with others. While Graphisoft employees monitor the lists, Graphisoft doesn't guarantee that questions will be answered. The discussion lists are not a replacement for formal support or bug reporting procedures. The lists are used for informal communication and Graphisoft cannot commit to fixes or responses to postings on any of the mailing lists.
GDL-Talk
The GDLTalk (a list server conference) exists to help those who want to post questions and answers about GDL to other concerned GDL users.
GDLTalk is committed to the culture of GDL not just as a tool for business, but as an intellectually challenging pursuit - the magic and delight of producing 3D form from a logically written algorithm.
GDLTalk is tolerant of the widest range of skills. Nobody will criticize newcomers for asking the easy questions, nobody minds an expert explaining something very technical. It is all part of the wide spectrum of GDL education.
GDLTalk encourages cross-fertilization and lateral development of skills. You may have become deeply pre-occupied with 3D, but a question from a user about 2D, or file input/output will stimulate you to try new techniques.
GDLTalk is used and nourished by some of the leading members of the GDL community such as Laurent Godel (gdl-guru), David Nicholson-Cole (author of GDL Cookbook), Oleg Shmidt (whose GDL work is the most accomplished form making visible), Duane Valencia (leading light of ArchiCAD-Talk and the GDL world), Kimon Onuma (energetic organizer of the GDL Alliance) and Willem Langelaan (author of Master Library).
GDLTalk has been adopted as the List-server for the world GDL Alliance, a network of GDL developers and devotees around the world. It is the forum of all members and non members - with one common interest - GDL.

Guidelines
Advertisements - An ad is anything being sold (services, hardware, software, etc.) All ads *must* have the topic tag [adv] in the subject line, and must be ArchiCAD related somehow. An ad for the same item should not be posted more than once in a 7-day period. Failure to comply with the above policy will result in: First offense: a written warning, Second offense: unsubscription from the list, Additional offense: banning from list.
Binaries - Please don't post attachments, or binaries to the list. If there is a file you think people might be interested in, feel free to send the URL so that they can decide to download it themselves if they're interested.
HTML - Turn off the HTML capabilities of your email program. Most of the world is still not using HTML capable email programs, so please be considerate.
Subjects - Use an appropriate subject. Don't use subjects like "Help me please" Those don't tell you anything about what's in the message.
Quoting - If you're referencing a part of someone's message, it's great Internet etiquette to quote the message, and give an attribution to the author. However, this can also create extremely long messages. Try to limit yourself to quoting only the essential portion of the message.
Spam, Humor and anything forwarded - Don't forward chain letters, Spam, humor, or Internet junk mail to the list.
Personal Attacks - Don't do it! Try to be constructive and understanding.
Avoid Profanity - Remember that everybody has a different idea as to what is vulgar or profane, so be thoughtful and avoid the commonly used "four letter words."
Topic Tags - A topic tag is just a standard way of indicating at the beginning of the subject of your message, what it's generally about. Here are a few examples.
- [media] Multimedia
- [begin] Beginner
- [wish] Wish list/Suggestions for AC/GDL
- [tip] General Tips
- [rant] Ranting, Misc. Comments
- [news] News/Information/Events/Seminars, etc.
- [help] Urgent help request
- [OT] Off topic
