Using GDL Web Control
To view an object from different angles, hold down the left button of the mouse (Windows), click and hold the mouse button (Macintosh) and drag the mouse. The object starts rotating and can be studied. The feature is available in all 3D view modes (Wireframe, Hidden Line, Shaded & Photorendered), but not in 2D or Preview mode. The user interface of Web Control can be accessed by clicking the right mouse button (Windows), Ctrl-clicking (Macintosh) over the web control window. As the pop-up menu appears, users can select menu items. There may be inactive menu items, if the author of the website has blocked some of the functions (e.g. Save Object).
The following commands are available from the pop-up menu:
- Parameters give versatility to objects. They ensure that several different items can be derived from one single object. They can define, among other things, the width/height of a door, the material of a bed or the number of bars in a window. Parameters can be changed via the dialog box, the content of which may vary from object to object.
- The scale that can control the amount of detail of an object shown on the floor plan or in the 3D view;
- The pen color and the fill pattern for the floor plan contours and hatches, as well as the 3D view contours or material finishes, if these are not defined in the parameter list of the object.
- The wall thickness to which the trim width of a door or window is automatically adjusted.
- The wall hatch on the floor plan and the wall material finishes in the 3D view, in the case of sophisticated parametrics, reveals that are shown together with the doors or windows.
There are certain parameters or representations of a GDL object that depend on globally predefined attributes. You can set these attributes on the Advanced Attributes and Advanced Wall Attributes tab pages.
Advanced Attributes:
Advanced Wall Attributes:
Saves an object to a library folder on the hard disk. The command saves all the necessary files needed to use this library part in a GDL library, or saves the object in the selected file format.
Clicking the New Type button brings up the Download Add-ons dialog box. Downloading a new add-on installs a new filter, via which the user can save the object in formats other than GDL. Find more on add-ons below.
Saves the image appearing in the web control window.
Shows the preview image included with the object.
Shows the 2D drawing of the object.
Displays a dialog box to modify projection and display attributes.
The cache folder of the Plug-in can be modified. The Plug-in will create this folder, download the necessary files, and place the temporary files needed for interpretation and visualization here. For correct processing, the Plug-in needs free space, which can exceed the 10 MB limit, depending on the quantity of objects in the browser window. After closing the last window containing a GDL object, the cache files and cache folder are erased.
The Master script commands are executed before each script (2D script and 3D script), as if they were copied before the other script. The Master script is in the Master.gdl file. In the <OBJECT> tag for IE on Windows or in <EMBED> tag otherwise, the HTML programmer should define the location of the Master.gdl file. If missing, the Plug-in tries to load this file from the directory of the object inquestion. If missing, the Plug-in uses a default Master.gdl. Usually, there is a default Master.gdl in the Plug-ins folder, which was copied to there during the installation process.
This dialog box can be activated by either pressing the Install Add-ons button in the Preferences dialog box or by pressing the New Type button in the Save Object dialog box. Downloading a new add-on installs a new filter, which can be used to save GDL files in this new format.
