Open IFC: New Features in ArchiCAD 16

What is Open BIM?

Open BIM is a universal approach to the collaborative design, realization and operation of buildings based on open standards and workflows. Open BIM is an initiative of buildingSMART and several leading software vendors using the open buildingSMART Data Model.

Open BIM Programme is a marketing campaign initiated by GRAPHISOFT®, Tekla® and other members of buildingSMART® to urge and facilitate globally coordinated promotion of the Open BIM concept throughout the AEC industry, with aligned communication and common branding available to programme participants.

Open BIM Certification is a technical certification system being developed by buildingSMART® to help AEC software vendors improve, test and certify their data connections to work seamlessly with other Open BIM solutions.

Open BIM supports a transparent, open workflow, allowing project members to participate regardless of the software tools they use.

Open BIM creates a common language for widely referenced processes, allowing industry and government to procure projects with transparent commercial engagement, comparable service evaluation and assured data quality.

Open BIM provides enduring project data for use throughout the asset life--cycle, avoiding multiple input of the same data and consequential errors.

Small and large (platform) software vendors can participate and compete on system independent, ‘best of breed’ solutions.

Open BIM energizes the online product supply side with more exact user demand searches and delivers the product data directly into the BIM.

Open IFC Features

Finding & Selecting by IFC Properties A new feature in ArchiCAD 16 is the ability to find and select elements by their IFC Element Type ... or by any of their standard or custom IFC Properties.	Scheduling IFC Properties The IFC Element Type of elements and any standard or custom IFC Property can now be used in Interactive Schedules. They can be used either as criteria or fields to be listed in the Schedule.	Story Matching Improvements when Merging IFC files When an IFC file is selected to be Merged and the Match Stories Dialog comes up, you can now see the Elevation of not only the Current Story of the Project, but also the elevation values of Stories in the IFC file.
Creating IFC Properties by Classification Reference It is now possible to create IFC Classification References for ArchiCAD elements. If you wish to use standard classification systems, you can use Predefined Rules for that, as discussed in another clip. Adding to IFC Schemes from Dialogs Custom IFC Properties can be added to Schemes not only in the IFC Scheme Setup Dialog, but also from element Settings Dialogs or from the IFC Manager.	Exchanging Custom IFC Schemes between Projects IFC Schemes data can be transferred from one project to another. If you defined an IFC Scheme and you wish to save it for later use or use it in another project, you may click the Export button and save the Scheme as an XML file.	New IFC Data Types: Actors and Space Occupants In ArchiCAD 16 two new IFC data types are introduced that are incorporated into the program's IFC data handling capabilities. These two data types are the Actor and Space Occupant data types.
