PDF file format missing in publisher

On the Windows platform, if you are not logged in as a member of the administrator group, it might happen that PDF file format is not listed in publisher as a choice when using the 'Save files' publishing method.

Technical background:

When you start ArchiCAD or PlotMaker, a temporary printer driver is installed for publishing PDF files. These printers also show up in the installed printers list while ArchiCAD or PlotMaker is running:

To be able to install a printer driver, you must be an administrator, or you must be a member of the Power Users group and have the ” Load/Unload Device Drivers” privilege, which is a Group Policy setting. If you do not have this right, ArchiCAD / PlotMaker will be unable to initialize the 'save as PDF' option.

To grant the necessary privilege for a non-administrator user, please follow these steps:
  1. Go to Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Local Security policy
  2. Select Local Policies folder then User Rights Assignment folder in the tree on the left side
  3. Search “Load and unload device drivers” row and double-click on it

  4. Click the “Add User or Group” button

  5. Click the Object Types dialog and check the “Groups” item to be able to identify Group names. Hit OK.

  6. Type 'Power Users' (without quotes) into the object names field. Hit 'Check Names' button when finished. The name will be substituted with the full domain name.

  7. Now Power Users on the workstation where you set this privilege will be able to publish PDF.
Note If you have a domain with an active directory, you can set this permission for all the computers on the domain controller. For details visit: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;297780&Product=winxp
