Solid and Empty fills cannot be deleted

Written by László Nagy

As default, all ArchiCAD Projects must contain one Solid Fill and one Empty Fill. These cannot be deleted, as the program will not let you do it. The reason is you must have at least 1 or 2 of each attribute in a Project to start from. If you did not have a Solid Fill, you could not create one by creating a Symbol Fill.
Unfortunately, if other solid or empty fills come into your Project, you will not be able to delete those either. For example, a colleague of yours might have renamed his 'Solid Fill' to 'Full cover'. If you copy-paste that Fill into your Project, you will now have two Solid Fills, neither of them deletable. They cannot be deleted from the Fill Types Dialog or the Attribute Manager. This way you may get several of such Fills, which might become annoying.
While this will be fixed in upcoming releases, there is a workaround you can try. In your file, show all Layers, and then draw a thick Marquee around the whole area of the Project. Copy it to the Clipboard. Then create a new Project with New & Reset, and paste the content of the Clipboard. Only those attributes (including Fill Types) will be brought over that are actually referenced by a placed Element. You will need to copy-paste also additionally drawn contents of Section/Elevation or Detail Windows, so do this only if the situation becomes troublesome.
Merging the file into a brand-new Project is not a good solution, as in that case the full attribute set of the file is carried over to the file it is merged into.
