Strange behavior of ArchiCAD scratch files

Written by László Nagy

We have received reports of occasional strange behavior when saving in ArchiCAD. This happened both in single-user and Teamwork Projects. On the Mac, it seemed that the saving process did not work and the user wound up with an ArchiCAD scratch file in his folder.
This can have something to do with the way ArchiCAD saves files. The process is the following: ArchiCAD Scratch files are used when saving a Project. First ArchiCAD saves the Project data into such a file, and if it was saved successfully, deletes the previous instance of that file with that file name and renames the Scratch file to the name given in the Save As... Dialog.
The problem probably lies in the fact that these files have a *.SCR extension. Anti-virus programs are looking for files with such extensions as on Windows this is the extension used by screen saver application and these can contain viruses.
It is recommended that if you experience such phenomena, disable your anti-virus software and that should remedy the situation.
Graphisoft is currently working on the complete solution of the phenomenon that will not require disabling anti-virus software.
