Corrupted ArchiCAD files on MacOS X 10.2.5
Written by László Nagy
Several reports have been received by Graphisoft concerning damaged ArchiCAD file on the Mac. After careful investigation, it turned out the files were used on MacOS X 10.2.5 through the network. As it turned out this was caused by a bug in this version of the Macintosh operating system.
Apple published the following article on their web site:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25448
Part of this document reads as follows:
- Addresses an issue for Mac OS X 10.2.5 in which a file could appear damaged after copying via an AFP (AppleTalk File Protocol) sharepoint, unless it was moved to a local volume after copying.
What it means for an ArchiCAD user is that in offices where ArchiCAD Project Files are stored on a server and users open their file from the server (almost always the case with TeamWork Projects), after saving the file, it may be reported by the operating system as having become corrupted. In case a user save the file to his own machine, then copied the file to the server, the problem did not arise.
So this is fixed in MacOS X 10.2.6. Until then, if you are using MacOS X 10.2.5, make sure you save the file locally and then copy it to the server. Also, make sure to create backup copies until your office upgrades to MacOS X 10.2.6.
