ArchiCAD "freezes" when printing to PDF

Written by László Nagy

You might accidentally encounter a time when you try to print to a PDF file from ArchiCAD (or PlotMaker) and it returns with an error message or even freezes. This happens if you want to print to an already existing PDF file that is currently open in another application (such as Adobe Acrobat).
On the Mac, the system asks you if you want to overwrite it, if the file already exists, and does so, when you click 'Yes'.
On Windows 2000, you get a message but it will not notify you of the existence and the open state of the file.

On Windows XP the program can hang if the file is already open in Adobe Acrobat. You may be able to close the file in Acrobat and then ArchiCAD may finish the save operation. This error is caused by the programming of the Amyuni PDF driver program ArchiCAD is using. So make sure the PDF file to be saved into is not open.
