Introduction to the List Format Wizard

Q: The second tab (Content) offers the same field under three headlines. What do these Headlines mean? How are they applied?
A: Headlines are, in fact, titles. These are used to display the value of a given variable as the title of a chapter, without adding up quantities with other general records.

Q: In the "field" tab, all choices are listed in the first pull-down bar, "Parameter and Record". It appears that everything else in the window is subservient to this choice (i.e., you can set different amounts of columns/rows/etc., for every item listed here).
A: Yes, this is correct. These fields will be used to sort and calculate the number of elements that are identical from a given point of view. See the example file (Winzipped Window_sched_examples.PLA file): the element list named "Window Listing Sorted by Name" contains headlines and records for the same Library Part Name variable. Even if you could list out the same thing using general Records and Headlines, we recommend that you use them in the method suggested by their names.

Q: All fields seem available for use in any given record, and this is very confusing. What is the difference between the UserID Record and the UserID field?
A: A record is a table composed of n rows and m columns, while a field is just one cell of this record.

Q: How is the Record Type pull-down bar related to either the "Parameter and record" bar or the fields below?
A: These pre-set formats are used on the pre-set layout types that appear greyed out. These are listed here to make recycling possible. Using the Custom option, you can define any type of fields.

Q: When placing several columns in a row, is it correct to place them using individual field WIDTH or OFFSET. How are they used differently?
A: Yes. For example, you can define a 100 mm wide record containing 4 cells: 40mm, 20mm, 20mm, 20mm. The offset is used to place your cell in a different x and y position; however, it will not shrink the others. There is an example in the element list named "Window Listing Total by N+siz+s".

Presentations of the list format templates are available in this file.
Window schedules with drawings. These drawings won't appear if you haven't loaded with your libraries the associated property object named WINDOW01 and if you haven't assigned this property object to your windows (by Criteria or manually...). Note that the drawings are added to your list in the Fields tab page, in the Picture dialog.

  1. Window Legend IDs: The drawings of your windows, generated by the property object, are sorted by the User ID variable.
  2. Window Legend pcs of each: almost the same, but instead of listing totals by User ID (which is different for the 5 windows), the totals are listed by the name of the windows, and the number of elements with the same name is also noted.
  3. Window Listing Sorted by Name: Example for headlines and different parameters of the windows listed one by one.
  4. Window Listing Total by Name: A list containing the number of elements with the same name and some additional parameters, which may not be true for each of them!
  5. Window Listing Total by N+siz+s: To add up elements that are identical from the point of view of several parameters, group these parameters in the content tab page.
