Visible Project North Symbol for sun studies/shadow calculations

Winner of the TechTip Contest of the month of April, 2002

Submitted by Karl Ottenstein of Archispectives LLC, Sandpoint, Idaho, USA, with a refinement by Frank Beister of Hansmann + Partner Architekten, Hamburg, Germany

Want to have a visible Project North symbol in your plan that matches ArchiCAD's Project North used for sun studies/shadow calculations?

Open the 2D object "North Symbol 70" from this location [US version]: Object Library 70 / General 70 / Graphic Symbols 70 / Signs 70 /

Type the following lines before the first line of the 2D script for North Symbol 70:

mul2 1, 1-2*SYMB_MIRRORED
rot2 GLOB_NORTH_DIR + 180*SYMB_MIRRORED - SYMB_ROTANGLE - 90

then save and close it.

Afterwards you are free to rotate and mirror the object, it's pointing direction will always be the Project North.

Note: after changing the Project North direction, a Rebuild is needed for the North Symbol to turn into the new direction.
