Use the Section Tool in 3D
Winner of the TechTip Contest of the month of March, 2002
Submitted by Luis Carlos Alvarez of Medellin, ColombiaFirst we need to access the Special menu:
On Windows:
with holding down the [Ctrl] + [Alt] keys when starting ArchiCAD.
On Macintosh:
with holding down the [Cmd] + [alt] keys when starting ArchiCAD.
OK!
Now before using this command we have to be sure that the 3D Window is already generated, otherwise the command cannot work as there is no 3D model generated to be cut. On the Floor Plan we are going to select the Section/Elevation line and go to special menu / use section tool in 3D. The 3D Window will appear with the cut done in such a way that that half of the model which is visible in the Section/Elevation view will stay displayed and the other half will be removed.
This command is very useful because we can create effects which cannot be done with the cutting planes defined in the 3D Cutting Planes Dialog. There we can define only straight cutting planes. With this command we can take a section line that has several breaks in it and cut the 3D model with that.
Note: Features of the Special menu are not supported!
