How to create virtual volumes for ArchiCADs temporary folder

In a University, students do not have access to folders on the HD other than the C:/temp folder, but ArchiCADs temporary folder needs to be put on a separate volume.

On Windows:

Open the command prompt, and type

subst L: C:	emp
and hit ENTER.

Of course you can use any other folder instead of C: emp for drive substitution. I.e. on Windows 2000 the temporary folder is in the Windows folder on the system drive.

This way the folder C: emp will be recognized as a separate drive, with the drive letter L:.

Note: you can choose any character for the Drive letter that is not already in use.
Note: to delete the virtual drive, type

subst L: /D
then hit ENTER.

Note: you have to restart ArchiCAD to be able to select it in the Preferences/Data Safety/Volume... dialog box.

On Macintosh:

Run Disk Copy from System Disk:Applications:Utilities.
Select Make New Image (or New Blank Image (OS X)) from the image menu. Specify its size and name, then create the new Image. Then mount it, if necessary.

It will work absolutely like any other Volume, you will be able to select it in ArchiCADs Data Safety/Volume... dialog.
