RDA is an award winning established chartered practice based in the East Dulwich/Peckham area. We have an immediate requirement for an Architect Assistant Part 2 to join our small, friendly team and to help work on our expanding portfolio of high end and environmentally conscious sustainable residential projects. BIM DESIGNER CLASSIFICATION: EXEMPT RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for the creative architectural design, development and illustration of building typologies, a Designer will be expected to work on a range of building types at various scales, including attached and detached houses, live-work, mixed-use and retail buildings, civic buildings and public spaces of all types. As a member of the project team, a Designer is involved in the establishing design direction, administering working drawings, preparing design presentations and coordinating with agencies effecting design. The Designer works closely with the principals and other team members in the development of architectural and urban design concepts. The position requires coordination of the architectural design work with other architects and other personnel in the office, as well as with other offices and sub-consultants. Work products will include hand- drawn conceptual and schematic design studies, hand-drawn renderings and architectural graphics, computer generated drawings and concept diagrams, as well as building design standards and guidelines. Strong capabilities in architectural design – both traditional and contemporary – urban building typologies, traditional residential design styles, high quality detailing, and construction techniques are required. SPECIFIC DUTIES Responsible for creativity in architectural design and preparation of Programming, Schematic Design and Construction documents. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Vocational/technical training. 4 to 6 years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Education: Professional Degree. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED Knowledge of building design, construction, and maintenance. In depth knowledge of contract documents and specifications. Ability to prepare working drawings. Skilled in the use of BIM and CAD equipment and software. Very strong design and drawing capabilities. Ability to produce conceptual, schematic and design development documents for a range of residential, commercial and urban building types. The EXEMPT classification requires that the employee performs work that requires knowledge of an advanced type in a field of science or learning; and the employee performs work that is creative and original in recognized field of artistic endeavor whose results depend on the employee’s invention, imagination or talent. An EXEMPT classification basically means that the employee is paid a fixed compensation to complete a job and is then not subject to overtime pay. As such, EXEMPT employees are not required to keep time records for the purposes of payment of wages. EXEMPT employees are able to have much more flexibility in their schedule, as there is no “requirement” to work a set number of hours per day. Along with this flexibility comes the responsibility of appropriately managing your own time in a manner that allows the job’s duties to be fulfilled. Performance evaluations and job expectations are based on the quality of work the employee is providing, not on the number of hours they are working.
