Budapest – August 23rd, 2007 – Known as the ‘Pregnant Oyster’ far beyond its home in Berlin, the architecturally unique Congress Hall was originally constructed in 1957. Today, it still remains one of the most unique buildings in Berlin’s urban landscape. Since 1989, it has served as the seat of the House of World Culture (Haus der Kulturen der Welt).
To bring the building up to modern standards for exhibitions and special events, GAP Gesellschaft für Architektur und Projektmanagement GmbH provided the design services for this important restoration project. The Berlin office of GAP, which has been working successfully with Archicad since 1997, managed the renovation project in a preservation-appropriate manner in just one year’s time. The scope of the project included updating the technical infrastructure, enhancing safety standards for visitors and employees, the refurbishment of a rooftop terrace and a new lighting concept for the buildings one of a kind façade.
The building reopened today, just in time for its 50th anniversary.
