Graphisoft Delivers Powerful Virtual Building Model to California Firm

Caitlin Kelley Architects Implements Archicad After Review of Competitor Products

Newton, Mass., September 9, 2003 – Graphisoft®, developer
of the Virtual Building™ concept, today announced that
California design firm Caitlin Kelley Architects has standardized on Archicad® as
its primary tool for building design and modeling. Archicad was selected
after a detailed review of competitor products, including VectorWorks and
Autodesk® Revit®.

“With Archicad, I am creating buildings with actual components, as opposed
to purely drawing lines, and that is an important capability for me. Archicad
offers superior quality in building design technology,” said Caitlin Kelley,
AIA, founder, Caitlin Kelley Architects. Kelley also leveraged Archicad’s intelligent
building elements to drive down time and resources spent developing construction
documents and other related materials. “Archicad allows me to focus my efforts
on creating designs. When I make a change and move from floor plan to elevations
or on to documentation, all the editing work has already been done.”
The benefits of Archicad’s Virtual Building model were fully realized during
Kelley’s recent work for a private marina at the Port of San Diego. The project
featured designs for three new buildings in their entirety, along with docks
and slips, using environmentally friendly materials. Because the marina is
leased from the port authorities, rigorous review processes were involved with
port and city officials. Using Archicad’s 3D modeling capabilities, Kelley
and her staff were able to generate conceptual drawings, as well as the three-dimensional
Virtual Model itself, to show review boards and client alike the marina plans
through every step of the design process. In addition, Kelley found Archicad
to be a powerful communication tool with project consultants, from contractors
to structural and mechanical engineers.
“From conceptual design to contract documentation, Archicad’s Virtual Building
Model is a powerful and compelling tool,” said Chris Barron, AIA, vice president
of sales and marketing, Graphisoft US. “Caitlin Kelley Architects is one of
those firms who ‘gets it’ leveraging Archicad not only as a design tool,
but as a means to re-engineer and expand their business. In the competitive
business of architecture today, Caitlin Kelley has got the edge.”
“I could not have done the marina project without Archicad, and I plan to use
the software to expand my business further into the commercial market,” Kelley
said. “I see a lot of potential for Archicad in my future, from design projects
to marketing the buildings. The Virtual Building model is a great value-add for
my clients.”
