Layered Mesh

Overview

VKTRS Layered Mesh extends the Archicad Mesh workflow by creating layered construction directly from existing mesh geometry.

Archicad meshes are well suited to modelling complex, sloping and irregular forms, but unlike many other native elements they do not support composite construction. Layered Mesh addresses this by retaining the form of the original mesh while generating a configurable multi-layer build-up beneath it.

This allows complex geometry to remain practical to model and edit, without rebuilding it using multiple slabs, roofs or other elements.

Key Capabilities

Layered Mesh uses an existing Archicad mesh as the basis for the generated geometry. Users can define the number of construction layers and assign an Archicad Building Material and thickness to each layer.

The resulting layered geometry follows the shape, levels and changes in slope of the source mesh, including more complex forms that would otherwise require significant manual modelling. Layered Mesh can also be updated if the source mesh changes.

Layer definitions can be adjusted as the required construction changes, making it easier to develop and refine the build-up while retaining the original overall form.

Layered Mesh is intended for architects, BIM managers and Archicad users working with terrain, landscape elements, floors, ramps or other irregular surfaces that require a defined construction build-up.

Typical Workflows

Typical uses include modelling layered landscape construction, ground build-ups, sloping surfaces and other assemblies where the geometry is naturally created as a mesh but needs to represent multiple construction layers.

The tool is particularly useful where maintaining the original mesh geometry is preferable to recreating the same form using several different Archicad element types.
