The built-in Energy Evaluation functionality of ARCHICAD 16 is based on entirely new technology, which allows architects to perform reliable dynamic energy evaluation of their BIM model within ARCHICAD, relying on BIM geometry analysis and accurate hour-by-hour online weather data of the building’s location.
Creating a Building Model for Energy Evaluation
ARCHICAD's Energy Evaluation functionality offers an easy-to use workflow for performing dynamic building energy calculations on projects of any size.
General Modeling Conventions
It is recommended to keep in mind a couple of modeling conventions and practices when creating a building model for energy evaluation. In this clip we will present the most important modeling guidelines and conventions.
Working with Zones
In this movie we will present how to model Zones for energy model analysis in ARCHICAD. A separate Zone has to be created in every conditioned space of the building, using either the Manual or the Inner Edge Zone construction method.
Energy Model Review
In this movie we will run the Energy Evaluation and get familiar with Energy Model Review. The automatic model geometry analysis turns the ARCHICAD Building Information Model, so called BIM, automatically into a Building Energy Model, so called BEM.
Structures List Display
The Structures tab page of the Energy Model Review palette lists the space boundaries on the building's external and internal structures, with all their physical properties that are relevant to the energy simulation.
Opening List Display
The Openings tab page of the Energy Model Review palette lists the space boundaries on the building's external openings, with all their physical properties that are relevant to the energy simulation.
Building Energy Model Visualization
The Energy Model Review palette enables you to visualize the energy model in different ways.
Customizing Model Review Colors
A separate color is assigned to each space boundary category in Energy Model View. These Energy Model Review Colors can be freely customized.
The U-value Calculator
U-value refers to the heat transmission coefficient of the selected structure. Structure items are listed with default U-values. The U-value Calculator calculates the average heat transmission coefficient value based on a simplified algorithm.
Thermal Property Assignments
In this video we will show how we can assign thermal properties to ARCHICAD structures.
The Material Catalog is an extensive database integrated within Energy Evaluation that contains building material information relevant to the energy calculations.
Working with Composite Structures and U-values
In this movie we will create a new insulation type for the ground floor and then we will modify the U-value of this floor.
The Energy evaluation in default uses the U-value calculator to define the Heat Transmission Coefficient from the various thermal properties, but you can also overwrite the U-value.
Infiltration refers to the air permeability of the selected structure. The unit of infiltration is liter per second, per square meter.
In this movie we will show you how to set the Surface settings in the Structure list. The Surface material property determines the solar energy absorption properties of the selected structure.
Setting Up Glazed and Frame Parameters
The Openings tab page of the Model Review dialog box lists data for all of the openings on the building shell. In this movie we will become familiar with how to set up the glazed and opaque parts of the openings.
Setting Up Shading and Shading Devices
