At this morning’s Software Industry Leaders
Keynote at A/E/C Systems ’99, Graphisoft® founder, President and CEO Gábor Bojár
explained to a responsive audience the three stages of 3D architectural CAD, how
other industries provide increasing value to the digital data produced by CAD
programs like Archicad, and how the industry can explode the value of
architectural design.
“By using 3D intelligent objects, designers not only increase their efficiency,
but they can create new value from the digital data,” Bojár explained in his
address. “We have Archicad clients doing this right now, but the potential for
the increased value is there for many, and it has not yet been explored.”
Bojár noted that while the annual output of the building industry more than
triples that of the automotive industry, it spends half as much on CAD tools.
Graphisoft’s vision of the future of the industry includes developing ways to
grow the building industry as a whole, thereby increasing the profitability of
its clients.
One of the ways Bojár says this can occur is if CAD software producers “open”
their object formats. To this end, he announced that Graphisoft will make its
Geometric Description Language (GDL) format available to everyone. Graphisoft
will also release a plug-in that enables GDL objects on the web, a GDL
browser/converter, and an adapter for AutoCAD’s ObjectARX.
“Having pioneered many of the A/E/C technologies in use today, Graphisoft is now showing us the future of the industry”, said B.J. Novitski, author and industry editor. “In his A/E/C SYSTEMS address, Bojar emphasized that the “paperless” age of CAD, though it is now being used only in isolated cases in the industry, will soon be a reality.”
Graphisoft was the first non-U.S. company invited to speak at the annual
Software Industry Leaders Keynote, held as part of A/E/C Systems ’99 at the Los
Angeles Convention Center. This platform for industry leaders also included CEO
Carol Bartz of Autodesk and CEO Keith Bentley of Bentley Systems.
Honored recently by The Wall Street Journal Europe as the leading Central
European executive for 1998, Bojár led Graphisoft’s achievement of significant
landmarks with the release of Archicad 6.o, Graphisoft’s June debut on the
Frankfurt Neuer Markt Stock Exchange and the opening of Graphisoft Park, a new
corporate headquarters and technology park in Budapest, Hungary.
