Majority of "Top 100" German architectural firms plan with Archicad

Object-oriented, integrated A/E/C CAD software is preferred by ranking architects

Budapest/Bruxelles, June 1, 1999
The Building Network, the news channel of the architectural world, annually publishes a ranking of the top international and German architects on their website at http://www.baunetz.de/arch/ranking. Users of the award-winning architectural CAD software Archicad are generously represented within the top ranks. In Berlin, the mecca of the building industry in Germany, 8 out of 10 offices deploy it.
For the ranking, Professor of Engineering Wolfgang Pohl, a renowned expert in these types of evaluations, analyzed the content of five German technical periodicals – Bauwelt, DBZ, db, Wettbewerbe aktuell – and two foreign publications – Architectural Review and domus. His analysis considered the editorial contributions and project documentation of more than 2000 architectural offices, and looked beyond mere economic success at the qualitative data. The ranking of offices is regularly updated in the periodical “BauNetz.” The current evaluation period extends from July 1996 through April 1999.
Of the top 20 architectural firms listed, nine use Archicad. In the area of Berlin/Brandenburg/Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Archicad is used as a planning and visualization tool in 27 out of 45 offices. In Berlin alone, 8 out of 10 top offices work with Archicad.
International firms use Archicad for Teamwork to handle complex projects between branch offices; Archicad 6.0 is a genuine multi-user application, suitable for use over the Internet.
Furthermore, the strong visualization capabilities of Archicad allow firms to create presentations from the virtual building model as QuickTime/realVR panoramic pictures or as VRML files.
Archicad’s API (Application Programming Interface) opens new possibilities for software developers, as local standards can be implemented into Archicad. Further examples for special functions are the calculation of raytracing, roof or stair constructions, or sanitary installations, which are now also created by independent developers for the Archicad market.
