Campus Houses Nation’s Most Progressive Visualization Laboratory
San Francisco, CA – November 4, 1998
Graphisoft in conjunction with its Houston-based reseller, CADeshack, today announced that Texas A&M
University has acquired 104 sites of Archicad for its highly acclaimed
College of Architecture.
The College encompasses Texas A&M’s Visualization Laboratory and the
Electronic Design Studio (EDS) which was one of the first in the nation to
integrate computer-aided design (CAD) in the architectural design studio
says EDS founder Professor Valerian Miranda. “As a design tool, Archicad
embodies the objectives we explore in the EDS. We’re eager to begin
incorporating it into our progams and feel that our staff and students
would be using a
tool appropriate for the twenty-first century.”
In the EDS, one of only a few of its kind in the country, Archicad will
run
on networked Intel-based PCs running Windows NT. Graphisoft and its
reseller will conduct Archicad orientation training for the 2,000 students
and staff of the nation’s largest program for the professions of design,
planning, construction and development.
Archicad is an award-winning integrated two and three-dimensional CAD
software package. Used daily by more than 50,000 architects and building
designers worldwide, Archicad is
the first and most widely used object-based architectural CAD software in
the World. Graphisoft’s Geometric Description Language (GDL) makes
intelligent objects possible by integrating 3D model information, 2D
symbols and text based properties in an easy to use scriptingenvironment.
Archicad has also pioneered the fields of collaborative architecture with
its TeamWork technology, and visualizaion by being the first CAD software
to introduce VR virtual reality and Livestyles hand-rendering engines.
The University’s Director of Information Services Jim Baker comments,
“Texas A&M is a visionary institution and with over a third of our design
studios being conducted in the electronic design environment, we
appreciate
Graphisoft’s equally visionary approach.”
Established in 1968, Texas A&M’s College of Architecture is the nation’s
largest architecture school of its kind. With one of the greatest number
of Ph.D. recipients each year, its graduate program is ranked among the

Science is the largest program of construction education in the nation and
its Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning is ranked
