Technology In Practice: American Canyon High School - Innovative Sustainable Design
May 07, 2008 | Presenters: Aaron Jobson, Quattrocchi Kwok
American Canyon High School embraces sustainability and incorporates state of the art technology and educational philosophy. Quattrocchi Kwok Architects (QKA) used ARCHICAD to synthesize these ideas into a dynamic campus that when constructed will be one of the greenest high school campuses in California. The new American Canyon High School combines a complex plan and program with a variety of innovative sustainable design elements including:
- 40% of the electricity for the campus will come from 500kw photovoltaic array
- an advanced and efficient ground source heat pump mechanical system
- extensive day lighting controls many sustainable materials and numerous water conservation measures.
These features and many others make American Canyon High one of the first schools approved under the Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) Verified program for green schools. Discover how QKA used the ARCHICAD model to:
- document the school
- coordinate the design with engineers and consultants
- create presentation renderings and drawings
- perform energy and day lighting analysis.
